Content Creation Tools

Here is a list of everything I have purchased for filming content and an honest review of all of it along with when to use what. (some of these may be amazon affiliate links that I may get paid a minor amount for introducing you to the product - this in no way changes my comments and thoughts mentioned below).

I just got this and it seems to be working well so far. It is 2 lapel mics (so when I'm interviewing someone they have one too) and the receiver connects to my iPhone.

There are times when I'm not filming with my phone but rather with an actual camera. This is the mic that I use and mount it on the camera. It has always worked really well. I put the fuzzy hat on it.

This is the gimbal I want to get. I have tried 2 before and I like them both. However I want this one because it will still allow me to put the lapel mic receiver on the phone without interfering with the balance. This has been a point of frustration for me for a while so I have research this a lot. I look forward to getting it soon.

Green Screen:

I really like this green screen and have used it multiple times. I wanted to be sure it was tall enough for anyone I might be interviewing and wide enough to fit 2 people. Plus it easily collapses and fits under a bed.

At my desk I decided to get a bright lamp to help with mood because of the seasons. Frankly, I use it for video more than anything else. I just keep it on my desk and turn it on and my lighting always looks great on film. People ask me all the time what lighting I use.

After filming with my green screen and the ring light I found that there were often shadows on the green screen which made it harder for editing. These are small lights that I keep at about knee height but closer to the screen than me and just point them at the screen. This keeps the screen the same color at all times. As a benefit, since they are battery operated I bring them with me when doing an interview so we have light on us if needed.

The person that advised me on buying the smaller lights directly above, said he always brought back-up batteries because he had run out of batteries in the middle of an interview. I purchase these but I've never had that problem. Yet I bring them with me charged every time just in case.

When I decided to get a teleprompter I also decided to get a better camera. I did a bunch of research on which one seemed particularly good for content creation. This Canon is the one I went with. The only time I use it is for use with the teleprompter since I'm using my iphone in the teleprompter. I actually really love this camera however I think it is in no way needed - it's just a fun to have.
